Our leaders oversee a wide range of locations and processing plants.

Stretching across the United States and into Canada, Strategic Materials recycles and processes glass and plastic. Our processed materials are then sold to manufacturers to make a diverse set of products including glass containers, fiberglass, beads, abrasives and fillers.


Denis Suggs

President and Chief Executive Officer

Denis SuggsDenis Suggs joined Strategic Materials in March of 2014 and brings more than 20 years’ experience in leading complex global businesses with revenues ranging from $100M to over $1.6B. Before joining Strategic Materials, Denis was with Belden Corp., a producer and seller of a comprehensive portfolio of connectivity and networking products. At Belden, he most recently served as Executive Vice President and Group President. He previously held executive positions at Danaher Corp., Public Storage, and IBM Corporation.

Denis received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State and an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.


Michael Ramirez

Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Michael RamirezMichael (Mike) Ramirez joined Strategic Materials in 2012.  He is involved in all aspects of strategic deployment and execution within the company and directs SMI's financial, technology, glass procurement (supply) and rail logistics organizations.

Mike brings over 30 years of financial and business transformation experience from public accounting, manufacturing and service industries with the following organizations: Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co., Datapoint Corporation, Allwaste, Inc., Encompass Corporation and PSC.

Mike earned his BBA in Accounting (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he continues his involvement serving on the university's Advisory Council to the Dean of its College of Business.  Mike is a licensed (active) Certified Public Accountant.

Mike resides in the Houston metropolitan area with his wife, Laura, balancing professional pursuits with raising their family of five sons.


Curt Bucey

Executive Vice President, Business Development & Industry Affairs

Curt BuceyCurt Bucey is focused on driving broad industry initiatives that will ultimately enable Strategic Materials to be one of the most influential companies in glass recycling in North America and abroad. 

Curt’s extensive experience of over 30 years in the glass and glass recycling industries range from time in glass container manufacturing and sales, to purchasing, operations, and sales of cullet from all types of suppliers and customers. He was integral in the expansion of the Strategic Materials Glass Division from 10 to over 40 locations and was part of the team that spun off Strategic Materials from a NYSE company into a private equity backed business.

Curt joined Strategic Materials in 1993. He has had many leadership roles at Strategic Materials including President, Glass Division & Chief Operating Officer: Chief Commercial Officer: Vice President of Sales and New Product Development; and General Manager –Central Region. Prior to joining Strategic Materials, Curt was employed by Anchor Glass, one of the Glass Division’s top ten customers and held many different leadership roles.

Curt has been a member of several private and nonprofit boards, including the National Recycling Coalition. Curt holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Purdue University. Curt, and his wife, Maura live in Houston with their five children.


Jimmy Rayford

Senior Vice President, Sales for Core Markets & Marketing

Jimmy Rayford

Jimmy Rayford is charged with driving both organic and inorganic sales growth strategies. Jimmy employs a heavy emphasis on strategy, execution and leadership all through sustainable process development.  As Senior Vice President, Sales for Core Markets & Marketing, Jimmy owns customer relationships and spearheads continuously improving the customer experience. His team includes sales, marketing, business development and alternative markets operations. 

Jimmy joined Strategic Materials in 2014 as Senior Vice-President of Business Development and Strategic Marketing.  In this role, Jimmy was responsible for developing the mergers and acquisitions strategy, as well as implementing best-in-class business and commercial processes throughout the organization.

Before joining Strategic Materials, Jimmy was President of Broadcast Cable for Belden Corporation. In this role, Jimmy had global P&L responsibility for Belden’s broadcast and AV cable and connectivity business. Prior to this role, Jimmy had a number of division president, general management, commercial and operations leadership roles with Belden, Danaher and IBM. 

Jimmy holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Notre Dame and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Jimmy earned the John R. Malone Award, an award for the top academic student in the graduating class. Jimmy has a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Clemson University and graduated Cum Laude. 

Jimmy is an active member of Young Presidents Organization (YPO) and was appointed Commissioner on Indiana’s Governor's Commission on Minority and Women's Business Enterprises (MWBE).  Jimmy resides in Indianapolis with his wife Bailey, their daughter Reese and their son Logan.


Steve Bowles

Executive Vice President, East RegionSteve Bowles

Steve Bowles is a 1973 Graduate of the School of Business at the University of Dayton.  Upon graduation, Steve joined Anchor Hocking/Anchor Glass Container Corporation, where he spent 20 years serving in a variety of positions, culminating in his role as Vice President of the Soft Drink Division.  In July of 1993, he joined Allwaste, Inc, as President of the Recycling Division, and was one of the founding members of the management team at Strategic Materials, where he served as President and COO until his departure in 2000.  Steve went on to start his own company in 2001, and over the following 15 years he built or acquired a number of glass recycling facilities, which became known as the Reflective Companies.  In December of 2015, Strategic Materials completed the acquisition of most of the assets of the Reflective Companies, and Steve once again joined Strategic Materials, where has served since the acquisition in his current role as Executive Vice President of the Eastern Region.

Steve is the proud father of five children, and he and his wife Lori reside in Houston, Texas.


Daniel Allinger

Senior Vice President,  Human Resources

Daniel Allinger

As Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Mr. Allinger owns the strategy and execution of the human capital process.  Joining Strategic Materials in mid-2017, his leadership and focus is on optimizing the organization, processes and workforce to have the greatest impact on operational productivity and margin.    

Mr. Allinger brings over twenty five years of global HR and business experience in multiple industries, and is well known throughout the global human resource industry as a progressive expert in human capital performance, efficiency and effectiveness.  Prior to joining, Mr. Allinger served as the Senior Vice President, Global Human Resources at Frank’s International N.V., and Executive Director, Global Human Resources for Baker Hughes, where he oversaw a wide range of responsibilities including global human resources strategy, organization and process transformation, workforce optimization, analytics, and technology. He has also served as executive sponsor for multiple enterprise operations lean and six sigma black belt certification projects.

Mr. Allinger is also an executive coach and member of the International Coach Federation (ICF), serves on the board of directors for People Productivity Solutions, and on the Texas State University McCoy School of Management Advisory Council.  He graduated with a BAS in Human Resources from Mount Olive University, while serving in the United States Air Force.


David Cabello

Vice President Business Development - South America & Strategy

David CabelloDavid Cabello is Vice President of Business Development Strategy for South American at Strategic Materials Inc. (SMI). Prior to that David held several leadership roles with Boart Longyear, Honeywell Aerospace, Delco Remy, and Delphi Automotive. His experience includes an expat assignment in China where he lead an end-to-end business transformation.

David Cabello has 20 years of global operations, business integration, and supply chain leadership with a strong lean manufacturing background. His expertise includes leading businesses through growth, transformation, and adaptation of lean management systems to successfully address different business models, cultural and regional challenges.

David has earned a Master’s of Science in Supply Chain Management from Michigan State University (MSU); an Executive Certificate in Technology, Operations, and Value Chain Management from MIT Sloan School of Management (MIT), and a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the Chihuahua Institute of Technology in Mexico. He is Lean Manufacturing Master Certified, APICS CPIM and APICS CSCP certified.


Paul Faherty

Executive Vice President, West Region

Paul FahertySince 2005, Paul has led Strategic Materials’ western region which encompasses all operations in Arizona, California, Nevada, Texas, Washington, Mexico and five Midwest plants. The Western division’s 17 plants currently process over 1.5 million tons of glass annually and are the primary suppliers to the glass container and fiberglass industry in the Western half of North America. Prior to joining Strategic Materials, Faherty worked in the turnaround industry and in the automotive aftermarket.

Paul holds a BBA in Accounting from the University of Notre Dame and is a Certified Public Accountant. He resides in Malibu, California with his wife Mary and two children.


Matt Keresman

Senior Vice President, Operations

Matt Keresman

Matt Keresman is responsible for the deployment and sustainment of our Quality, Environmental Health & Safety, and Lean Operating systems. In addition to providing engineering support for our plants, he is charged with our capital deployment and subsequent return on investments.  Through the deployment of these systems he is efficiently transforming the company's customer experience and creating a standard approach to streamlining our operations.
 
Matt joined Strategic Materials in 2014 and brings more than 25 years’ experience specializing in lean transformations at all process stages for industrial products, defense, automotive, aerospace, power transmission and distribution companies. He has over 18 years of plant management experience and joined Strategic Materials from Belden Corp., where he most recently served as Vice President Operations of the Americas Group. He has a Black Belt in Lean Enterprise, a Green Belt in Six Sigma and was certified by the University of Tennessee in Lean Enterprise. He previously held executive and senior management positions in the Waukesha Electric Systems Division of SPX Corporation and AlliedSignal’s Aircraft Wheel & Brake Division. 

Matt received a B.S. in Physics from John Carroll University and an MBA from Cleveland State University. Matt and his wife of 29 years, Joan, have two daughters, Dana, and Allie. His hobbies include equestrian sports, golfing and he is also an accomplished triathlete, completing over 75 events in the past 15 years.


Scott Trom

General Manager, Specialty Products

Scott Trom

Scott Trom joined Strategic Materials in 2016.  He serves as General Manager of Abrasives and Specialty Glass.

Scott brings over thirty years of sales and marketing experience in technical products including concrete chemicals, polymers, and abrasives.  He’s worked in market development for such companies as Union Carbide Corporation, Mitsubishi Rayon Co., Ltd., and Rizhao Garnet, Ltd. 

He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from the University of Utah, and holds a Certificate of Completion in Industrial Marketing Strategy from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.  He’s a licensed commercial pilot with multi-engine and instrument ratings.

He lives in Houston, Texas, with his wife Lisa and enjoys spending time with their six grandchildren.
